The Kappa Women’s Super Cup will return in 2022, with a record 68 teams from across Queensland participating in the second edition of the women’s knockout tournament.
The state-wide Kappa Women’s Super Cup was launched by Football Queensland last year with support from official apparel partner Kappa, with 55 teams participating in the inaugural competition.
“It was fantastic to launch the historic new Kappa Women’s Super Cup competition in 2021 to coincide with the 100-year anniversary of the first public women’s football match in Australia,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“After the success of the first-ever Kappa Women’s Super Cup last year, we’re delighted to again have the support of Kappa to deliver the tournament in 2022.
“This year it has been fantastic to receive 68 nominations from clubs across the entire state, from community level to the NPL Queensland, demonstrating the broad appeal of the knockout tournament and the high-quality participation experiences it delivers for women’s teams.”
Kicking off later this month, the Kappa Women’s Super Cup will begin with teams competing in knockout matches against local rivals before moving into inter-regional encounters.
Round 1 and 2 fixtures for South East Queensland teams and Rounds 1, 2 and 3 fixtures for regional sides will be confirmed in the opening rounds draw tomorrow, Thursday 10 February.
NPL Women’s and FQPL 1 teams will join the competition in Round 3.
